Case Erector for Oversize Cases

440 Series

Hot Melt Adhesive or Tape Sealing

The M440 is the ideal solution to replace manual case setup and sealing of extra large cases, reducing costs and liability and ensuring a consistent supply of quality cases to your line. It’s built to handle the special requirements of oversized cases and proven in production to dependably erect, square, and seal large cases at top speeds.

Built to Handle the Big Boxes

Erecting and sealing oversized cases can be a challenge, and tedious work for a manual setup crew. The M440 offers a winning solution. This rugged case erector offers safe and reliable handling of extra large KD (knockdown) blanks, and forms them into square cases that will perform well throughout packing and distribution. It is an efficient upgrade with exclusive features that ensure precision forming and sealing of cases with extended width and length, making it a valuable addition to your packaging line.

This erector has a heavy gauge steel frame for no-vibration operation and it’s packed with rugged, top quality components to form super-sized KDs into square cases. Its floor level magazine is ergonomically designed for easy loading with minimal lifting. An all-mechanical, continuous motion drive provides precision case handling with top reliability. Plus, this machine is smart, offering simple operation and full plant integration. It’s proven in production to dependably erect, square, and seal large cases at top speeds for maximum performance on your line.

Key Features That Benefit Your Production

Easy-load KD Magazine
M440 Easy-load KD magazine

Low-level magazine eliminates excessive lifting and extends time between refills

No more lifting heavy cases! This ergonomic, floor level magazine eliminates a potential source of liability found in mid and high level magazines. KDs are easily transferred from pallet to the magazine without stress…your attendant simply positions them against the squaring rail, and the stacks feed automatically. KDs can be added at any time.

The standard high capacity magazine holds multiple KD stacks, giving your attendant more time between refills.

Magazine extensions are available for added KD capacity.

Magazine Feeds Off-spec Cases

Top feed magazine accommodates warped and band-marked corrugated blanks

KDs are lifted from the top of the stack by dual, spring-loaded grippers that are forgiving to inherent case variations and smoothly handle large, heavy corrugated blanks. The grippers independently adjust to lift KDs from uneven stacks caused by warped or band-marked KDs and provide smooth transfer to the opening station.

The horizontal, top feed magazine eliminates issues of back pressure that can cause misfeeding in vertically stacked magazines.

Precise Control of Case Opening

Square cases start with total case control

At the opening station, pneumatic grippers secure cases from below. Meanwhile, the mechanical, reciprocating arm lowers and “over-opens” cases on the major flap to ensure successful minor flap closing of the bottom flaps. This system runs corrugated with out-of-spec manufacturer’s joints. This dual-gripper action system also positively opens doublewall cases.

A-B-C’s vacuum opening technology smoothly opens even warped and bent cases, unlike pin-style openers which require straight corrugated flutes for proper operation. An automatic blowback system keeps air lines clean.

Case-squaring Features
M440 Case-squaring features

Multiple features ensure consistently square cases

The walking beam case transfer is powered by the mechanical, continuous motion machine drive. It provides smooth case transport and keeps the case square as it moves from opening to sealing.

Servo-powered sealing ram

The adhesive sealing compression mandrel is built with opposing stationary lugs that square cases as they are sealed. The soft-glide compression ram is servo-powered to precisely deliver full compression for secure seals.

Tape-sealed cases are squared by upper and lower transfer belts throughout tape application. Both 2” and 3” width tape applicator heads are available.

Adjusts to Your Line

Hands-off operation includes line monitoring and auto response

The erector automatically senses and adjusts to changes in your line speed to prevent backups if there are slowdowns upstream on the line. The erector immediately returning to line speed once cleared.

Positive Case Discharge and Handling

Supplying a continuous flow of cases to your packaging line

The standard M440 model includes a heavy-duty, adjustable discharge chute. This device uprights cases as they exit the machine to the line conveyor, delivering a constant supply of square, well-sealed cases, oriented for efficient transfer to the packing station.

5 Minute Changeover
M440 5 minute changeover

Minimize downtime with rapid case changeover

Changeover for the complete range of sizes can easily be done in minutes. Most adjustment settings utilize rapid adjust hand cranks and slides with locking handles. Automatic adjustment is available with servo-powered adjustment devices.

Intelligent Machine Control

Intelligent machine control simplifies setup and diagnostics

Operation is simple and repeatable for quick operator proficiency. At the touchscreen, you control all functions, diagnostics, and changeover settings following clear, step-by-step sequences. Real-time operating data is available at a glance.

Non-contact sensors monitor machine functions and ensure precise timing of each operating sequence. Troubleshooting at the control console is straightforward, with simplified drill-down to sensor level for immediate fault detection and quick resolution.
